Allergy relief made easy
If you struggle with allergies, you know how burdensome they can be in your day-to-day life. At Total Health Primary Care, we offer allergy testing and preventative treatment plans that target allergies at the source. Each treatment plan is unique to you and reduces your specific allergy symptoms so you can return to feeling your best.

3 simple steps
We make the path to being allergy free easy and convenient with 3 simple steps:
1. Testing,
2. Quarterly medication pickup, and
3. Weekly at-home treatment and therapy.

How it works
To identify which substances are triggering your allergy symptoms, we perform a prick/scratch skin test. This test allows us to target the substances triggering a reaction with immunotherapy – a preventative treatment for allergic reactions. Your unique treatment will include small increasing doses of the substances triggering your symptoms. This causes the immune system to become less sensitive to the substance, reducing symptoms when the substance is encountered in the future. We closely monitor your treatment plan and adjust as necessary to ensure you’re seeing the best results.

What is colorectal cancer?
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, yet it is also one of the most preventable and treatable cancers. The American Cancer Society recommends all average-risk adults 45 years of age and older get screened. Ask your provider today about your options for screening!

Screening
If you’re 45 or older, you should be screened regularly for CRC. The two most common types of screening are colonoscopy, which should be done every 10 years, and multigrade stool DNA test, which should be done every 3 years. If you are at high risk of colorectal cancer, talk to your provider about how often you need to be screened. Factors that make you at high risk include:
● A family history of colorectal cancer or polyps
● A personal history of polyps or inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis)
● A personal history of colorectal cancer

Treatment
Treatment for colorectal cancer is dependent on each patient’s diagnosis. During an annual wellness exam, we will discuss the importance of colorectal cancer screening with you. If you are screened with a stool DNA test, we will be notified with your results, and will communicate them to you. If further testing is required, we will help you navigate your care path with our pathway partners.

What is arthritis?
Arthritis isn’t one single disease, but refers to joint pain or joint disease. There are over 100 types of arthritis and related conditions that damage the joints and other organs. Although many people think it is, arthritis is not a disease of aging, and occurs in people of all ages. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which can damage any joint but is most likely to occur in the hands, spine, hips, and knees.

Common symptoms
Common symptoms of arthritis include pain, swelling, stiffness, and decline in range of motion of joints. Symptoms are different for each person and can vary from mild to severe and can come and go. Some symptoms may stay the same for a long period of time while others can progress and get worse. Arthritis can cause permanent joint changes and can result in chronic pain and difficulty performing daily activities.

Treatment
Treatment of arthritis depends on several factors, including the location and level of pain, and your goals and preferences. Initial treatment typically focuses on lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy diet and exercising on a regular basis. In some cases, arthritis can be treated surgically. Total Primary Care works with you to develop a personalized care plan to help reduce any pain and get you closer to your goals. If surgery is of interest or necessity, we work closely with our care partners to ensure your care journey is seamless and you are supported along the way.

What is hypertension?
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the pressure of blood against the artery walls is consistently high. When a person has hypertension, the heart has to work harder to pump the blood, which can cause damage over time. The higher the blood pressure and the longer it goes untreated, the more damage it causes.

How is blood pressure measured?
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). The top number on a blood pressure reading is systolic blood pressure – the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls when your heart beats. The bottom number is diastolic blood pressure – the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls when your heart is resting between beats.

What is considered high blood pressure?
These ranges serve as a general guide. Talk to your provider to determine what healthy blood pressure looks like for you.
Normal blood pressure: 120/80 mm Hg or lower
Elevated blood pressure: 120-129/80 mm Hg
Stage one hypertension: 130-139/80-90 mm Hg

You are in control of your health, and we want you to feel that way. Total Primary Care is your partner in determining a care plan that works best for you. Together, we will take steps to get you closer to your goals.

What is hyperlipidemia?
Hyperlipidemia, also known as high cholesterol, occurs when there are too many lipids (fats) in the blood. Your liver produces as much cholesterol as your body needs. Smoking, drinking excess amounts of alcohol, eating foods with lots of saturated or trans fat, and not being physically active can all lead to an increase in cholesterol. Over time, having high cholesterol can cause hardened cholesterol deposits (plaque) to collect in your blood vessels, making it hard for blood to get through. This causes damage to your organs and puts you at risk for a stroke or heart attack.

Common risk factors
Hyperlipidemia can have many causes. Some common risk factors that may make you more likely to develop high cholesterol include:
• Obesity
• Family history of high cholesterol
• Poor diet
• Drinking too much alcohol
• Smoking
• Having diabetes
